I Survived Appendicectomy!!! Thank you Kajang Hospital! :)
First of all thank you God because I survived the operation. I want to take this opportunity to say my deep appreciation all staff, nurse and doctors at Emergency and SOPD Kajang Hospital for doing a great job, their dedication and love. I create this post for few reason:
1. Free top professional service available in our country since I'm a government staff. Why pay medical card which cost thousands/year. I get the same kind of treatment.
2. Dedicated and professional service seen during my stay 10.10.19 - 14.10.19
3. I felt there's no need to go to private clinic for consultation. Just go government clinic to get referral letter to be admitted in emergency. (only applicable in certain situation like mine)
4. I love fan since I can't stand aircond. Even the job I choose is because there is only fan available although I do aircond on a hot day although I love hot than cold. This is digressing.
Next part of the story is the chronological of my appendicitis. (So other people can use it as a reference and save yourself and other people. Be a wise person and learn from my mistake)
Day 1: Went to toilet 7x (stool is hard & vomiting 2x). See private clinic then drink salt packet, eat wind, diarrhea & stomach ache medicine (totally doesn't work at all!!!). Lots of wind, stomach & abdomen non-stop makind sounds & I can hardly move around. Lying & sitting are difficult since the whole stomach & bladder is painful except the appendix part. The pain will tell me I need to urinate. Urinate is painful too!
Day 2: This part i regret i didn't listen to my wife since she advised me to go at 8pm. Yet i'm stubborn and refused to go because I hate cold aircond. In the end still have to go Kajang hospital emergency because it was too painful at 3am. Give antibiotics & paracetamol, suspected UTI because have germs in urine. They did blood & urine test. Took chest and lower abdomen x-ray. No stones detected at kidney, pancreas and gallbladder.
Day 3 - 5: Diarrhea and vomiting x 3. Felt better at 5th night.
Day 6: Went to work with slight pain only since just finish all the antibiotics. According to specialist, the antibiotics suppressed the inflammation that's why I can move around.
Day 7: Pain to shifted to right side where the appendix is. Got a referral letter from private clinic (well i feel money wasted RM60 since I can get it for free at government clinic if i have severe pain plus it's fast, don't need to queue much based on wife feedback later. Why she never told me when it happened?! Just tell the nurse at the registration counter - important tip!). Entered the ward after few hours waiting at comfy sofa with drip. Started fasting just can wet the mouth with water. Not such a torture since I have no appetite the whole week anyway. Hardly drink water as well. The urine is dark brown. Not sure whether have blood in it or not. Maybe that's why when I pee it's so painful!!! Argh!!!
Day 8: Operated 2am. Called my wife to come in 4 hours. Changed into surgical clothes. My butt sure feel cooling. Feel comfortable since the nurse covered me in thick blanket. So nice of them! Felt no fear at all, very weird. Just thought this is how my lovely wife experienced when she got cesarean. I wonder how she felt at that time she went into the same operation hall. Kinda shocked when the doctor read me the risk including being dead if serious complication occurs. Well whatever, as if I can escape since I had to remove the appendix after being in pain for a week! The whole thing is very fast. I moved myself from the trolley to operation bed. They covered me in thick blanket so I'm comfortable, put heart signal detector. The next moment the anesthesiologist inform she will put me to sleep, she put a breathing mask on me and ask me to take deep breath. When I fill slight pain in my hand where she put the medicine, I'm totally out the next second.
The first thing i remembered is I'm coming back from somewhere like in another dimension. Then I keep taking deep breath while shouting "pain, pain, pain". The male ask me what pain yet I can't even identify where I'm in pain. They ask me to calm down, everything is alright and take deep breath. The female ask the male colleague why this patient act like this and I heard faintly that it's because they gave me lots of powerful drugs since my situation is quite serious, that's why I'm so high. Next I started crying while keep saying 'please forgive me' again and again. When she ask why I answered because I'm so lazy and they (nurse & staff) are so hardworking. Thought pop up like my name, where I work. The next moment I'm gone under again!
I remembered I called my wife when I woke up later at the ward asking why she haven't arrived yet. She told me later she wore clothes for me after finding out I'm naked under the blanket and surgery clothes.
Day 9: My mouth is so dry after I woke up. I can only drink plain water. Still fasting. Felt really painful at the wound. Can still walk like an very old man. I'm forced to go to the toilet every 1-2 hours like previously since the pain will tell me I have to pee.
Day 10: I can finally drink more water and allowed to drink juice without pulp like Ribena. My lovely wife make fresh apple juice for me although I don't have any appetite to drink. Urine is still dark yellow color with burning sensation. Finally farted since doctor keep asking about this.
Day 11: Finally allowed to eat porridge since everything went well with no vomit although I still have diarrhea.
Day 12: Today I felt really good since my colleague came to visit me plus giving me red packets as blessing. Told them the whole story.
Day 13: Today is terrible since have 4 times diarrhea. Plus my piles is acting up. It was so painful that I thought I have to be admitted to hospital again. Luckily my dear wife traditional method works which is use castor oil to push it back in plus I took a painkiller :P
Day 26 29.10.19
thanks for sharing. i was worried since i lost 6kg in 3 weeks times from the time i had appendix, got operated and recovering now. i lost appetite to eat since the beginning and start to ate soft food like protein & porridge after i got operated, discharged and start eating beginning 2 weeks ago. I felt relieved after reading your story. I was worried of intestine cancer since I lost so much weight in 3 weeks time and thinking of immediately getting a scope. Well now I will continue to monitor my weight and will get a scope in 2 months time since it’s scheduled by the government hospital. Thanks once again for sharing the story.
Read this story which calm me down https://www.quora.com/Is-it-normal-to-lose-weight-after-a-surgery
I just went through an appendictomy so I lost 6kg of weight in 3 weeks, dropping from 56kg to 50kg. Suffered first 2 weeks with no appetite & water. Well I'm pumped to recover and jump right in to built back what I've lost and gain more to reach 65kg since my optimum bmi is that for my height 168cm. I'm very blessed since I've totally changed my outlook in life to positive since the operatio. I know I can reach my goal with the love & support of my family & friends. My ex student which is a very successful body builder & personal trainer will guide me. Thank you, thank you, thank you God :)
